Action Research Action Plan

Goal(s):
1. To decrease incidences of female violence of females identified as discipline problems on a middle school campus
2. To increase the academic achievement of females identified as discipline problems on a middle school campus
3. To reward academic and disciplinary accomplishments of females identified as discipline problems on a middle school campus
4. To establish a one-on-one mentoring program in an urban middle school setting

Action Step(s)

1. Obtain a list of potential participants in the study
2. Gather data regarding discipline referrals, grades conduct, and counselor referrals.
3. Solicit female mentors from the staff at the school
4. Assign mentors to mentees
5.Meet with participants to discuss progress in a group setting

  1. Lucille, This is such a valuable research topic. Not only does it impact student achievement, but more important, I can see that this could impact a young girl's life. Sheryl

  2. Lucille, You have such a well thought out plan, below are just a couple of minor suggestions. Since this is such a serious problem in middle school, perhaps an even earlier intervention (in elementary) could be beneficial. Also, since scheduling meetings can be quite challenging, how about using a wiki to replace your group meetings? Then mentors can join in the discussion at their convenience while viewing the responses of others. This could help with the time commitment and may help with your recruiting! Good luck!     I also think that looking at the elementary schools from your feeder pattern should be convenient, don't know if now is the best time to do it, but at least keep in mind for the near future.
